An Italian Margarita with a salted rim and lime wheel garnish on a rustic table at a scenic Italian beach. The background includes blue waters, colorful umbrellas, dramatic cliffs, and Italian women enjoying the sunny Mediterranean setting.

Italian Margarita

This Italian Margarita is a sophisticated twist on the classic, blending the bold agave flavor of Blanco tequila with the sweet almond richness of amaretto, the citrus brightness of fresh lime and orange juices, and the subtle sweetness of simple syrup. Topped with a sugar-rimmed glass and garnished with a vibrant orange slice or lime wheel, this margarita strikes the perfect balance of tart, sweet, and nutty flavors. The addition of amaretto sets it apart, adding a uniquely indulgent touch that makes it ideal for both casual gatherings and special occasions. Whether floated for a layered effect or mixed for full integration, this Italian Margarita is a refreshing, elevated take on a beloved classic.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Blanco Tequila
  • .75 oz Orange Liqueur
  • 1.25 oz Lime Juice
  • .75 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz Amaretto
  • .75 oz Orange Juice

Instructions

  • Prepare the Glass: Pour sugar onto a small plate. Take a lime wedge and rub it around the rim of a margarita or rocks glass to moisten it. Dip the rim of the glass into the sugar, twisting gently to coat evenly. Set the glass aside.
  • Fill the Glass with Ice: Add ice cubes to the prepared glass. You can fill it to your preference, but a typical Margarita glass is about 2/3 full of ice.
  • Add the Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, triple sec, orange juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and mix the ingredients thoroughly.
  • Strain Over Ice: Strain the shaken mixture into the glass, leaving a little room for the amaretto.
  • Float the Amaretto: Gently pour the amaretto into the glass. You can either float it by pouring over the back of a spoon for a layered effect or stir it gently into the drink for a fully blended flavor.
  • Garnish: Garnish with an orange slice or lime wheel on the rim of the glass for a vibrant and inviting presentation.
